In 1998, some senior HR people from the UN System and the International Financial Institutions got together to brainstorm what to do about the status and practice of the management of human resources in both international governmental and international non-governmental organizations. While these organizations were increasingly investing in training and development for their staff, those who had to oversee the management of people were often left out. They also noted that a number of companies were selling off-the-shelf training programs that were expensive and not always very adequate for their organizations’ unique circumstances.

SHRM, the Society for Human Resource Management, creates better workplaces where employers and employees thrive together. As the voice of all things work, workers and the workplace, SHRM is the foremost expert, convener and thought leader on issues impacting today’s evolving workplaces. With 300,000+ HR and business executive members in 165 countries, SHRM impacts the lives of more than 115 million workers and families globally.

Pakistan Society for Human Resource Management is committed to providing leadership in HR excellence. It is the professional association for HR practitioners and those involved in the business of people management. Founded in 2004, as a casual gathering of HR friends to discuss common interest issues and strategies, PSHRM has evolved to maintaining high standards of professionalism in human resource management and development.

Pakistan Human Resource Network is the largest network in Pakistan representing human resource and people management professionals. PHRN represents almost all NGos,UN agencies and other development partners. PHRN leads the direction and fosters the growth of the HR profession through actively setting standards and building the capability of the profession. Through its international affiliations and close association with industry and academia, PHRN ensures that its members are given access to a soundly-based professional recognition framework in the form of professional development programs, events, research and publications.

The Management Association of Pakistan, formerly West-Pakistan Management Association, was formed in 1964 by a small group of senior professional executives. It came about to meet the impending demand for managerial talent within the country, consequent to the rapid increase in industrialization.

Pakistan Society for Training and Development (PSTD) is an independent, non-profit and non-government institution supporting those who develop the knowledge and skills of employee in organization in Pakistan. It is managed by an honorary Board of Governors comprising of senior executives and human resource professionals from prominent organizations in Pakistan.
