Services and Facilities

The integrated library system facilitates lending, reference, information access and offers comprehensive portfolio of service to the students, faculty and researchers. The Learner Support Services assists the culturally diverse UMT learning communities. A key focus of the LSS is to enable learners to utilize learning facilities to the maximum.

Lending

All registered participants with valid UMT ID are eligible for library loans with varying borrowing privileges. Library materials on reserve, periodicals, reference, and items with restricted access cannot be borrowed.

Book Reservation

Books has been borrowed by any participant can be reserved by another one. An e-mail notification will be sent to the member who has reserved the item. Reserved items will be held at circulation desk for 3 days, after that they will be shelved. Faculty may be given priority in this regard. Books can only be reissued once, provided that the same is not reserved by other learner.

Inter Library Loan (ILL)

The unshared and flatfish aim is to render vibrant and relevant information services; Modes Operandi is to work in conjunction with libraries and other institutions to implement bi-way cooperation. Library extends instant help without zero-waiting of time to those who want to benefit from other important and renowned libraries of the country. The Inter library Loans service helps staff, faculty and students to obtain material that is not available in the UMT Library.

Reference Services

Experienced and well-learned library professionals are always willing to assist the users with the 'comprehensive information and research materials. The Reference Desk is staffed throughout the day to help researchers in locating information and data by using the latest print and electronic resources. Researchers are assisted in grasping current as well as historical information at the Help Disk. The Reference Desk provides support as to use of library collections, and respond to in-person, phone and e-mail subject inquiries. Reference assistance includes answering directional and reference queries, providing instruction, know-how of searching resources, technical assistance, and referral services. If required, learners can also be referred to other libraries, offices or individuals.

Document Delivery Services

The library acquires distant-material by overcoming access barriers through its Document Delivery Service. Materials, especially journal articles, which are not available locally, are aquired from overseas. The library has arrangements with leading Document Delivery Service providers.

Photocopy and Scanning Services

There are photocopiers available within and outside the library. Limited scanning facility is available within the library; however the services of professional scanning can be availed from the copier shops.

Alumni Services

With a valid alumni card, all university graduates can avail the library resources and services during library hours. Borrowing privileges are not available.

Research Support

An individual research consultation with research librarian is also available by appointment to students, researchers, and faculty. Our liaison librarian will also provide you the guidance about scholarly publishing. We also invite experts in various fields for specialized research sessions to discuss their research projects.

Whether you're a Ph. D. or M. Phil/MS scholar, our state-of-the-art facility offers a diverse range of resources and services. Learning Commons

Learning Commons service is to provide a dedicated space within library where students can come together to discuss and collaborate. It provides a vibrant and interactive environment that fosters creativity, critical thinking, and knowledge-sharing. Whether you're working on a group project or seeking academic support, the Learning Commons are here to help you thrive. Use of the Learning Commons (LC) is limited to a maximum of two slots of 45 minutes each by a group of 4 to 8. Students can make reservation of 45 mints. The group may request an extension if there is no standing reservation for the next slot. For LCs reservation go to the link: https://lcr.umt.edu.pk/

Scholars Common

Scholar Common is dedicated for MS/MPhil & Ph.D. students. It is a dedicated space within library where researchers can come together to discuss and collaborate. It provides a vibrant and interactive environment that fosters creativity, critical thinking, and knowledge-sharing. It is a space where Researchers can communicate with other researcher to share their ideas and thoughts. Equipped with modern technology and resources, the scholar common is the perfect place for scholars to engage in meaningful conversations and enhance their learning experience. Faculty members can also use scholar common for meeting purpose with their research students.

Capacity Building Programs

Capacity Building Programs on research strategies, subject-specific resources, and specialized software hands on trainings are conducted by LRC. The information is communicated through e-mails and social media platforms. The process of registration is being published well advance before the program. Participants and faculty is encouraged to participate in the programs of Research Support Services.

Theses Consultation Service

This service was started to facilitate the UMT research students, where they can view, read the research projects/Theses of senior students of previous years for seeking guidance for the completion of their own research projects. BS and Master Theses are available only in soft form, whereas MS/MPhil and PhD. Theses are available in both soft and hard form. Two desktop computer systems have been designated for Theses consultation for students of BS, Master, MS/MPhil and Ph.D. at the 1st Floor of Learning Resource Center.
